The April 15th Lineup!

Posted on 23 March 2010 by IgniteBC

Here, in no particular order, is the initial list of presentations and speakers that are planned for the Inaugural April 15th Ignite Event at Lux @ Caprice in Vancouver.  With a theme of Creation, Evolution and Revolution, this Ignite Vancouver event promises to deliver a lot in a very short period of time.  Here’s a sample of what you can expect:

1.   What Is Ignite? – A Quick Overview in the Ignite Format: Five Minutes, 20 Slides, 15 seconds per slide that auto advance.  Prepare to be enlightened, but we’ll be quick about it.

2.  The Ultimate Lesson in Social Media:  Two avid Ultimate Frisbee players share what they’ve learned from Ultimate to help shape a successful social media strategy

3.  Dressing Inappropriately:  A humorous and thought provoking look at what happens when we dare to show up as ourselves instead of conforming to societal norms.

4.  The 1965 Ford Mustang:  At the time of its release, the Mustang was seen as a revolutionary and innovative creation in contrast to the usual box-like cars coming out of Detroit.  Today, it continues to redefine and revolutionize.

5.  How to Buy A Hit Broadway Play with No Money Down:  This informative presentation takes you to New York City where IgniteBC members will learn what it takes to buy a hit theatrical show and get investors.

6.  Platypus Eggs and In House Idea Incubators:  Encouraging entrepreneurship in your company, nurturing brainstorming, and building new profitable businesses from within the enterprise.

7.  Advanced Internet Research Techniques: The Poem reveals how you can instantly improve your online search skills, evolve in your web productivity and transform how you use the web in your organization, career and life.

8.  Sustainability in Simple English:  Along with being Green, companies are adopting the phrase “Sustainability” into their business lexicon.  This presentation will show you how to identify, implement and evaluate basic sustainability practices in your business and life.

9. How I Sell Stuff to the Worlds Largest Corporations: Getting in and closing the deal with the biggest, the baddest and the best in the World.

10.  They’re NOT The Boss Of You: Really Really Useful Tips for New Parents and Expectant Parents From a New Father of Twin Boys.

And, approximately three or four more still to come…

The Inaugural Event: April 15 @ Lux

Posted on 15 March 2010 by IgniteBC

The inaugural Ignite Vancouver will be held April 15 at Lux @ Caprice.  The capacity of the venue is approximately 80 people, with room for speakers, stage, etc.

We already have a solid lineup of speakers for the event, but if you are interested in participating, we’re always happy to find a way and make room for you.  Ignite Vancouver follows a simple format: 5 minutes, 20 slides, with each slide auto-advancing every 15 seconds. Come explain your passion, and spread the word! If you know of someone you’d love to see at Ignite Vancouver, tell them about it and ask them to participate, too.  There’s no limit to the subject matter (within reason): think of an Ignite Event like an open mike night to raise awareness and inspire others.

Currently on the bill:

An entertainment industry leader talking about the evolution of television
An SEO expert that will reveal more about the inner workings of the 8000lb Gorilla
A dad that will give new and expecting parents the inside track to reclaiming 3 hours of sleep each night
A couple of funnymen
A couple of funny women
An event promoter with a unique spin on the economy of entertainment
A sustainability expert to help explain what sustainability is in simple English
A talk on business incubation within the enterprise

…  and possibly even a few more.  All said, the event is slated to be about 2 hours long, including the contest.  This is also a licensed event and all persons attending or presenting must be of legal age.

All speakers should fill out the talk proposal form (below), to indicate you are interested in speaking.

How To Become An Ignite Speaker

Posted on 27 February 2010 by IgniteBC

The cool thing about Ignite is that just about anyone can present.  It’s like an open mike night to talk about whatever you are passionate about.  The only condition is that it must fall into the Ignite format:  20 slides, 15 seconds a slide, five minutes total.  That, and the topic must have some kind of “social value”.  In other words, it’s not infomercial time.  We will post details about you and your company on your speaker Bio page.  People interested in finding out more can go from there.

  1. Start by submitting a quick overview of your topic.  Title and 1 paragraph description.  This should be completed one month prior to the event date.
  2. Two weeks before the event date, submit a finished powerpoint deck to us for review.  If there are any problems with it, we’ll still have a chance to correct any issue.  Additionally, the extra lead time helps us convert the file for the subsequent video archive where we will synchronize the presentation with your video.
  3. Also:  two weeks OR SOONER, provide us with a bio about yourself.  This will help people know where you are coming from, and will also give folks an opportunity to contact you if they would like a more detailed perspective.
  4. The day of the event:  Arrive about an hour early so you can get familiar with your surroundings, schmooze a bit with the other speakers, organizers, etc, and just get ready to have fun!
  5. After:  We still need clearance to post your video.  So after the event, you’ll sign a waiver giving us permission to do so, without the expectation of future remuneration.  In return, we will post the PPT in your bio, along with the video links to the IgniteShow.com global site, YouTube, and on our site.  You will also receive permission to use the “Proud Presenter” badge on your website, where you can link back to the presentation archive / bio page that will feature all your presentations.

You can download the Powerpoint template from here:
